Today, I'm going to talk about the good guys in the hacking world. We usually see hackers are portrayed as the bad guys on tv, movies and news, but believe it or not, there are some hackers that fights against these bad hackers. The good hackers, also known as the "white-hat hacker" job is to find any bugs or vulnerabilities in a system and fix these issues to improve its security. They report these bugs/vulnerabilities to whichever company developed these software for an exchange of money.   

I was reading some news early this morning and I read an article that has a title "hacker leaks Snapchat's source code on GitHub". As I further read the article, the hacker leaked the source code because Snapchat is ignoring his report about a bug in the application. I learned that his intent is only to communicate this issue to Snapchat and was hoping that the company will fix it. 

My issue with this kind of journalism is that the author used the term "hacker" to identify the perpetrator. I think that it is important to state whether the hacker is either a white-hat, a grey-hat or a black hat hacker, because the term "hacker" has gotten a bad reputation among the public and media. 

Let's talk about one of the most popular white-hat hacker. He is known for his alias "Moxie Marlinspike". Matthew Rosenfield, also known as "Moxie Marlinspike", is a computer security researcher and the co-author of the Signal Protocol. Signal is widely considered the most secure and free encrypted messaging and voice calling application. His goal for this project is to bring an uncrackable encryption for sending and receiving messages. Signal encryption has been integrated into WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging app with over a billion active users. His name has a pretty interesting meaning. "Moxie" is a synonym for boldness and "Marlinspike" means a tool used to separate strands. He was also the former head of the security team at Twitter. 

In conclusion, whenever we published an article on the internet, we should be more careful in choosing the right words to convey our thoughts. In addition, we shouldn't automatically assume that the word "hacker" means a bad thing. Hacking can be used for good and evil, it all depends on the hacker's intent.
